LSL Crash Pads Fitting Kit Types

The question on why there are different LSL crash pads fitting kits, even for the same motorcycle, came up today in a customer question. A typical example would be the Triumph Speed Triple 1050, where you can purchase an MA type fitting kit as well as an RA type fitting kit!

LSL crash pad fitting kits

First of all what is the difference between these crash pad fitting kits:

The MA type fitting kit ensures that the crash pads are positioned perfectly for your motorcycle. It does that by using more than one bolt-on point to create a super-light Aluminium superstructure to which the crash pad is fitted. The result? Ideally positioned protection at the point of impact.

The RA type fitting kit is nearly as clever, but not quite: The RA type fitting kit utilises one bolt-on position and then offsets towards the optimal position the actual fitting point for the crash pads by what is possible, given the frame of the motorcycle. The result? Crash pads fitting kits that are simpler to fit and as close to the optimum position as is possible using just one bolt-on location.

How do I choose between the crash pads fitting types?

In most cases you do not have to choose: The Triumph Speed Triple 1050, where you can purchase an MA type fitting kit as well as an RA type fitting kit, is the exception and not the rule. The LSL parts engineers always aim for creating the optimum protection for your motorcycle with the minimum intrusion required when fitting the crash pads. When you choose LSL crash pads you are already making a choice to protect your motorcycle as best as possible!
